How wide are the roads? And will any one F1 car from 1967 to 2012 fit in them?

Have a look at vids related to Irish rallying on YouTube, they are very enjoyable. Unlike rallying in the UK, Irish rallying is mostly on tarmac, and extremely fast. Never been to the Emerald Isle but I guess most of the (country) roads are not that wide.

I’d say something like a Lotus 25 or 33 (1.5 litre engine) would fit quite well, but then they are from 1963-65. Not so sure anything from the 3.o era would be so easy to drive there.

Hillclimbs in Europe are one of the outlet for superseded single-seaters, but those used to be F3 or F2 cars. However, a British guy raced a six-wheeler March 2-4-0 F1 car to some success in those kinds of events in the UK – albeit converted to just four wheels, not six.

Unusual but interesting question. Why?

“Unusual but interesting question. Why?”

The chance to take a Brawn BGP001, Williams FW15C, Mclaren MP4/6 or Ferrari F2004 (or 908 HDi FAP, R10 TDI, Porsche RS Spyder or Oreca 05) looks so shiny, so chrome, where I live, I die, and live again.

But I guess I’ll have to make do with a BAC Mono or a home-built racer based on a Lego car I often build.

They look pretty narrow, but probably still wide enough for a single car to run - you’d have to stage it like a hill climb or point to point. I don’t think there’s enough space for open wheel racing.

Still I’d much prefer to drive there a little Lotus 25. Possibly much more fun. (Failing that, a Light Car Company Rocket . Designed by a certain Gordon Murray.)

Bear in mind I had not seen the article on the front page about the bikes and I was still thinking about Irish tarmac rallying...

Do go to YT and have a look. You won’t be disappointed.
